the city walls
The village is fortified by a circle of walls studded with eight square-based watch-towers, some with battlements. One of these towers faces the ruins of the castle of Canale and another one is next to the entrance door with a round arch.
ChURCH OF Santa Maria delle Grazie
Just outside Collicello there is the church of Madonna delle Grazie, built in the seventeenth century around a rural aedicule, representing the Madonna seated with the baby Jesus and the little Saint John playing. The church has a simple portal, with two openings on the sides that allowed the travelers to see the image of the Virgin even with the door closed; the interior has a single nave with rural frescoes and figures of saints, dated the first half of the 17th century. The devotion to the Madonna in these places must have been particularly strong, given the presence of a series of ex-votos.
ChURCH OF San Giovanni Evangelista
Dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, patron saint of the town, it is located in the central part of the town near the walls. The parish was established in 1612. Inside it is possible to admire the frescoes placed in the apsidal basin, in which are represented the Madonna with the Child between the Saints Michael the Archangel and John Evangelist with a view of Collicello. The frescoes were realized by the painter and decorator Benedetto Cascianelli in 1948. The church also retains an ancient pipe organ.
