There are many initiatives that the Italian villages and their hamlets take in order to enhance the territory so that it is chosen as a holiday destination or as a place to live. An early example was the initiative taken by the municipality of Siena in 1309. In fact, they decided to translate the rules and laws governing public life into the vernacular, so as to be understood even by those people who didn’t know Latin. The statute was exposed to the public, clearly written and fixed with a chain, so that no one could tamper it. An ante litteram Constitution was born, which put at the center the well-being of all citizens, educated and not, and of the city that benefited from it in honour and prosperity; for the decorum of the “beauty of the cities, for pleasure and joy to strangers, for honour, prosperity and growth of the city”. Today thanks to the collaboration between the non-profit Enotria Foundation and the course of Museum communication, Technology and Cultural Heritage Management of Sapienza University of Rome, held by Professor Maurizio Quagliuolo, a project to enhance smart villages is LAUCHED, in favour of residents and visitors.
